These instruments are played primarily with hands or sticks:

1. Djembe: Hold the drum between your legs or on a stand. Strike the drumhead with the palms and fingertips near the edge for a high, ringing Tone, and in the center for a deep Bass sound. A sharp, high strike at the rim produces a Slap.

2. Talking Drum: Hold the drum under your arm. Use the curved stick (shown on the top right drum) to strike the head while simultaneously squeezing the tension ropes with your arm and hand. Squeezing the ropes tightens the head and raises the pitch.
